12 Aug Five reasons why I love The Amazing Northampton Run – and you will too
In less than a month you could do something amazing!
If you haven’t signed-up yet, there is still plenty of time to register to race for our flagship half-marathon event, The Amazing Northampton Run.
Today, I wanted to tell you a little bit about why this event is so special to me. So, here are five reasons why I love The Amazing Northampton Run… and you will too!

1. It has something for everyone
A half-marathon is an interesting distance. It’s accessible enough that there are a host of runners out there who have done hundreds of them, but far enough that plenty wouldn’t dream of taking on the 13.1 miles it entails.
At Go Beyond, we always try to ensure our events have something for every runner. That’s why The Amazing Northampton Run comes complete with our three-person relay and a separate three-miler event.
It means everyone has a chance to enjoy our fantastic course, and to run past some of the fantastic sights and sounds Northampton has to offer.
2. History and heritage
We always look to have a theme for our Amazing Northampton Run race, and Northampton never fails to offer one up. Last year, we celebrated 50 years of the iconic Carlsberg factory. In 2025, we’re going a little bit further back in history.
Three-hundred-and-fifty years ago, fire spread through the centre of Northampton, devastating our town. The Great Fire of Northampton 1675 destroyed 700 of its 850 buildings, including the original All Saints’ Church.
Much of the impressive architecture in the town centre now rose out of the ashes of that fire. That’s why we’ve chosen a ‘Great Fire’ theme for our 2025 event.
It is just one piece of the town’s heritage that runners can enjoy and learn about as they pass sites such as the Guildhall, Racecourse, Beckets Park, St Giles’s Church and many more.
3. Fantastic support and great volunteers
I always say this, but it bears repeating. The support we get for The Amazing Northampton Run, both from the crowds who turn up to cheer runners on and from our loyal band of volunteers, is truly fantastic.
It is always magical to see the people of Northampton come out, usually accompanied with an incredible array of mind-blowing signs, to support loved ones, friends and often complete strangers.
Without them, the event wouldn’t be half of what it is – so thank you, and I can’t wait to see you all again!
4. Celebrating our town
Footfall figures show that when The Amazing Northampton Run comes to town, the number of people visiting the area doubles compared to a normal day.
It is fantastic that we are able to help promote and celebrate all the good things Northampton offers, from some brilliant businesses and charities to beautiful architecture, parks and sporting venues.
The event showcases Northampton’s attractions, history, and culture. I am proud of how we all work together to encourage visitors to explore the town and its surroundings.
5. Our incredible runners
Of course, the very best thing about The Amazing Northampton Run is YOU! Every single one of the more than one thousand people who will line up at the start, ready to press their own goals.
Whether their aim is to win the event, simply complete it or anything in between, there is so much inspiration to be taken from watching so many people challenge themselves.
I will never tire of seeing so many runners cross our finish line, the looks of pain, ecstasy and good old-fashioned relief etched across their faces.
