Become a Race Marshal

We're always on the lookout for volunteers to join our fantastic team — no previous experience needed

Who are the marshals?

We've been extremely fortunate to be able to call upon a fantastic pool of marshals, and we're always on the lookout for more volunteers to help build the team.

Typically our marshal teams are made up from all walks of life, both young and old — runners who want to give something back to the sport, injured runners who still want to feel part of the community, local people, friends and family of competitors, retirees who want to remain active, and people who simply love people and want to help.

Why be a marshal? No event happens without the support of the marshal team. It's great fun, you'll meet lovely people, and competitors are always grateful for your help. Volunteering is also well documented for improving wellbeing — especially in a world where face-to-face interaction happens less and less.

What will you be expected to do?

Set-up & registration
Pre-event set up, course marking, and handing out race numbers, map books, T-shirts and checking kit
Checkpoints & water stations
Giving out water and snacks, recording competitor numbers — motivational speeches optional
Timing & finish line
Finish line management, handing out medals and prizes, and monitoring road crossings
Logistics & support
Car parking, baggage transfer, and looking after the all-important tea tent

We rotate marshals so you can experience every role over a season, but we also cater to individual preference and experience. You'll be well briefed with detailed information sheets, and paired with an experienced team member if it's your first time. Every job is vital to a safe and successful event.

What do you get in return?

We always make sure our marshals are looked after with food and drink in your goody bag — and of course, home-made cake! You'll get a free event t-shirt and free entry to a Go Beyond event, which you can transfer to a friend if you'd rather give it as a gift.

And of course, a warm and fuzzy feeling that you've helped make something special happen for a lot of people.

How does this work?

First, send us an email or ask to be added to the Go Beyond Events Team on Facebook. We'll ask for your address and mobile number so we can add you to our marshals list.

Before an event we'll shout out for volunteers, so you can check your diary and let us know if you're available. Closer to the date we'll share the marshal rota and instructions for your specific role — and we're always at the end of the phone if you have any questions.
