27 Feb Looking for the perfect food companion for your long run: Meet Freezedried & Co
Running long distances is hard. Running them without the correct nutrition game can be downright silly.
As a running company which puts on four super enjoyable, but also challenging, ultra races, we know the importance of getting your fuelling right.
Personally, I’ve taken part in some really tough events all around the world. Trust me, you don’t get round races like the Marathon Des Sables, the Amazon Jungle Ultra, or the first ever For Rangers Ultra in Kenya by taking your nutrition lightly.
That’s not to make out that I’m some kind of superhuman athlete. With the right training, mindset, and you’ve got it, nutrition, we can all do incredible things.
That’s why I’m delighted to say that Go Beyond Challenge has partnered with Freezedried & Co, the producer of Europe’s largest selection of freeze-dried food designed for hiking, trail running and bivouacs.
The lovely people there kindly sent me across some of their products to try out and let you know about.
First things first, despite being based in France, Freezedried & Co were super quick with their delivery – something that is really important if you’re preparing for a big race.
As you can see from the picture at the top of this post, the selection of goodies Freezedried sent my way included a mix of freeze-dried meals and sports nutrition products.
I’m a vegetarian and they were able to cater for me with no problems, with nourishing meals including Thai Red Curry and Porcini Risotto.
Anyone who has taken part in ultra marathon events knows that the standard of food catering for these challenges can vary hugely. Sometimes, when you’re struggling to hit the next mile let alone the next stage, that isn’t really a problem – you just need that pick-me-up.
But it doesn’t do any harm if you actually like the food that’s sustaining you as well!
And that’s where Freezedried & Co is ahead of the game. As well as providing you with the energy you need, the selection of foods they offer are pretty tasty as well – although personally I’m never going to get used to the texture of any kind of energy gel!
With more than 2,000 products available, they’ve got something for everyone with food packs on offer for hikers, runners, mountaineers, travellers, kayakers, bushcrafters and all other kinds of outdoor enthusiasts.
I’d certainly recommend them if you’re looking to take part in a multi-day or longer endurance event, such as… and I’m thinking off the top of my head here… the Capital to Country Multi-Day Ultra.
Now, there’s an event that really is super enjoyable!
