The Thames Trail – 47-miles of ultra running along England’s largest river – is one of the most popular events in the British ultra running calendar.
Previously known as the Thames Trot, the event runs from Iffley in Oxfordshire to Henley-on-Thames past ever-changing scenery, beautiful houses and traditional rowing clubs. Competitors should expect everything from tarmac paths to muddy trails on this interesting and challenging course.
It was way back on July 24, 1996 that The Thames Path National Trail was inaugurated with the final section of the route opened – one of only 15 National Trails to follow a river.
That said, it should be noted that the run follows both the Thames Path and Ridgeway National Trails, so entrants should be careful not to forget the words ‘National Trail’ rather than simply reading Thames Path.
Taking place on Saturday, October 19, this is a race that sells out quickly so be sure to get signed-up as soon as possible.
Starting around three miles south of Oxford, the race heads from Hawkwell House Hotel down to Iffley Lock and across the river. It then follows the towpath through the picturesque towns and villages of the region to Henley-on-Thames.
THE RITZ OF THE ULTRA RUNNING WORLD
This year, we have a brand new finishing spot for you at the YMCA Y Centre, in Lawson Road, Henley-on-Thames, complete with everything a tired ultra runner could possibly need at the end of a race: toilets, showers, hot soup and rolls, tea and coffee, heaters and somewhere warm to change.
A stone’s throw from our previous finishing line, it offers the benefits of a big hall, a kitchen, and male and female changing rooms.
