Championing our Irchester Dirt Run podium heroes

We love to celebrate all our Go Beyond runners, but every now and then it’s good to give a special shout out to those athletes who managed to beat the odds and earn a place on the podium.

Last month, we put on our always popular – and generally muddy – Irchester Dirt Run, and were rewarded with a fantastic day of running including a couple of course records and a mother and daughter combo in the top three of the women’s 5k.

Remember Round 2 of the Dirt Run Series takes place in Brigstock next week and there are still plenty of places available – find out more and book your spot here.

So, without further ado, let’s look back at our Irchester Dirt Run podium placers…

5km race

Ross Brown won the Irchester Dirt Run 5km race

We had plenty of families and young people taking on our 5k course, bringing with them a real sense of camaraderie and a lot of fun.

Ross Brown was the first runner home, finishing in 21:55, with Abi Atkinson coming in second in a new women’s course record of 22:14.

Abi shattered her own record by more than three-and-a-half minutes in what was an incredible performance.

The men’s podium was completed by Jozef Mordawska and Broughton Runners and Riders’ Jason Bishop, while the women’s race saw mother and daughter, Zarina Mellor (2nd) and Deb Galletta (3rd), complete the honours board.

10km race

Our 10km men's podium, including winner Antonio Fischer, pictured centre, clearly read the dress code memo!

The 10km race was won by Antonio Fischer, who was just eight seconds off the course record in 38:36, with Mark Lanwarne coming second and Lewis Green third.

For the ladies, long-time supporter of this event Rachel Shaw took a well deserved first place in 47.03 – finishing fifth overall.

She was closely followed by Victoria Butterworth in second and Rugby Triathlon athlete Kay Henderson in third.

15km race

The longest race of the day saw an incredible performance by Wellingborough and District Athletics Club’s Jonny Repp, who romped home in 52:55.

Jonny’s effort was so impressive he would actually have taken first place in all three race distances and he broke the previous course record by a staggering three minutes and 54 seconds.

He was closely followed by Jason French, who also finished inside the previous course record, while Jevgeni Rusak completed the male podium.

It was great to hear that these super fast runners still found the time to spur all of the other participants on as they made their way round the course.

For the ladies, Jennefer Gray took top spot in 1:10:14, with Wootton Road Runners’ Olivia Thompson coming second – narrowly finishing ahead of Laura Fox.
