Celebrate the return of The Amazing Northampton Run and help commemorate 50 years of the town’s iconic brewery

Fancy a pint?

One of the most iconic landmarks on our The Amazing Northampton Run route, the Carlsberg factory, is an imposing building – and this year it is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its official opening.

Since it opened its doors on May 10, 1974 the factory has brewed around 28 billion pints of beer – enough to fill more than 6,000 Olympic swimming pools.

It forms a really important part of the Northampton economy, employing more than 200 people and running a successful engineering apprenticeship scheme.

The brewery was designed by renowned architect Knud Munk in 1970, who was set the task of envisioning what the first Carlsberg factory built in Europe outside its home country of Denmark should look like. Munk’s design was inspired by the Danish longships of their shared home country and went on to win the prestigious Financial Times Industrial Architecture Award in 1975.

As a relative newcomer to the town, our flagship Amazing Northampton Run is only in its second year, but we’d like to think we can provide some of the same benefits Carlsberg has brought Northampton. Last year, our inaugural race saw footfall double in some areas of the town centre, giving local businesses a boost and bringing some vibrancy to the area.

Of course, our main goal is to see people of all abilities testing themselves to the limit, loving their running and getting fitter – but we don’t mind the odd beer, even if that’s a zero per cent alternative, after a race.

And who are we to say whether or not we are ‘probably the best half-marathon in the world’!!

There’s only one way for you to find out – sign-up to The Amazing Northampton Run now. Cheers!
